Tesco pet insurance offers cheap cover for cats and dogs with uo to 25% online discount for Club Card customers. 2 options are currently available: Standard for £2,500 in vet fees per condition for 12 months only and Extra for £4,000 per condition with no time limit to claim. Existing customers also get a free 24 hour veterinary emergency helpline.

I have recently obtained pet insurance through Tesco for my pooch and found them to be one of the cheapest insurers on the market (I made a claim on a previous pet policy and, despite this, tesco were still good value).
Unfortunately I’m unable to comment on their claims process; hopefully I won’t need to make one but I have found their customer services staff excellent and knowledgeable.
Thanks Tesco x
Quick and easy to sign up to and one of the cheapest around, Tesco offered a very good service for my cat. I would definitely recommend them.
When taking out tesco pet insurance i found the process very easy and it was very affordable for my situation at the time. I have been with them for just over 18 months now, and unfortunately had to make several claims recently as my dog developed problems with his hind legs. Making a claim was simple enough, however i had to wait around six weeks for a reply, during which time my dog had to go in for expensive and unavoidable surgery for a damaged cruciate ligament. Hearing back from tesco, i was told i would not receive any payout for my claims as they deemed it a pre-existing condition (which even my vet could not trace back to before my policy began) and was told i would more than likely not be covered for the surgery either. i am still waiting to hear about my surgery claim but im not holding out hope. All in all, i am dissappointed at having paid for coverage i thought i was getting, and have had to pay enormous vets fees on top. I would not recommend tesco to anyone in future, so if you are looking at this policy, be sure you can afford to risk it!
They are no longer cheap, but quite expensive.
We have had the problem of them ‘deeming’ a condition to be pre-existing even though our vet included a letter explaining the difference between the condition/treatment being claimed for and any actual pre-existing condition. Customer service was ok, but then, words are cheap.
Avoid.
I was just about to enter my 2nd year of insurance for out beloved German Shepherd with Tesco. Renewal arrived today and it has risen by £90 in a year!!! I didn’t get some special deal on 1st signing up with them and I’ve made no claims. This level of increase is NOT right!
i have 6 pets over two policys with tesco.
there customer service is great, i found them to be most suitable for my pets and the most affordable. i have made 4 claims on my policy for 4 of them over 6 months, and they have been brilliant every time, the claim form is easy to fill out and very simple. my vet makes a direct claim as most of the time the bill came to over £500 although there is a 4 to 6 week waiting time, tesco have paid out in full each time. very happy with them.
Please shop around. It is terrible value, can get much better, even for senior dogs. I took out Tesco Pet insurance for my 3 years old dog for about £5.00/month. Gradually payments increased to £26.25/month when dog reached 10 years and 3 months with a max pay out for vet's fees of £2,500! I did not read what I was getting.
Was about to renew my policy on a 9yr old rescue cat until I checked the price £14.32/mth. Advised that when a pet reaches 9yrs old, premiums increase because illness/death is inevitable!! and that many insurers will not even provide cover but Tesco do! Will be looking for other quotes. Wasn’t confident with the phone operator, constantly having to check policy conditions and perhaps they should have got my name and my pet’s name correct too!
I wouldnt go for them . Had experience with them after my dog has a problem with his fron legs (elbows)they did not want to give money back, they do anything to avoid you, they dont call you back after they promise they will call.Phone operator is part of the decision factor and definitely I would go for Animal Friends or Sainsbury. Please avoid them if you dont want headaches.
All very strange… Last year the monthly premium for my GSD (who is 4y 9m old and in rude health) was:-
£6.33 a month with 3rd party liability of £2,000,000
This year:-
£13.53 a month with 3rd party liability of £nil ( though I think the liability bit might be a misprint)
I have not claimed on this insurance nor any other insurance ever.
Feel badly let down on recent claim. Customer service very poor. Read the small print before I signed but had no idea what wasn’t covered.
Try a rival cover
I have a dog de bordeaux my premiums were £29 last year I have just received my renewal notice and they nnow want £57.70 off me. 100% price increase. All ive been told is i had a 35% discount last year tyhey could reduce the cost to £51 because I have a club card. Will not be renewing looking for another insurer
had pet insurance for my dog this last year, when itried to claim i was told they would not cover it as my dog was seen out of hours, apparently dogs must only be ill monday-friday! wont be using again.
Have had tesco pet insurance for my jack russell since he was a puppy, he is now 4years old. Recently had to make a claim as he was attacked by another dog and had a deep neck wound, tesco paid up very promptly, I would recommend them to others.
I've have 3 dogs insured with Tescos one of them has been for 8 years. It's only now, when one is ill, I realize that £2,500 is nothing like enough to pay for treatment. An otherwise fit dog has developed lymphoma, the initial 24 hours testing at the small animal hospital cost £1,200 and now each chemotherapy session is £400, and she will need between 5 & 9 sessions. I'm now moving the other dogs to Petplan which offer £7,000 per year for only a couple of pounds more.
After I had cancelled my pet insurance a payment was taken out the month after.
After various phone calls and posting a copy of my new policy showing much better cover and cheaper payment ….NO RESULT NOTHING …after service O% will never deal with Tesco again…
