I found it an expensive policy until that is my dog had an accident, all the icy weather caused her to slip and then sadly after only spraining her knee, she slipped again. Her cruciate ligamenets were ripped and the operation was between £300 and £500 for the plates being added and the nursing care.
Customer service throughout has been faultless, paid without trouble. I have only had to worry about my dog and that made it so much more of a relief.
Have had petplan insurance for my cat since i adopted her 5 years ago. It is a for life policy, whihc thankkfully i have never yet had to claim on, but I have always found them helpful and informative when i have had questions or concerns. so wish i had i know people who have had to claim through them and found the process simple, and felt much relieved by the removal of worry about paying the vets bills. well, well worth it in my opionion.
I have used Pet Plan for over 14 years now and am an extremely satisfied customer. It has been necessary to make a couple of claims for my dogs and each time the claim has been dealt with quickly and efficiently. It has been such a relief knowing that, if and when necessary, my animals can have the treatment they need.
Until recently I was very happy with the cover and service I received from petplan, but now that they have changed their policy regarding hydrotherapy I am not so happy. I am now stuck with an insurance policy that no longer provides the cover I require, but I cannot go elsewhere becuase my dogs wil have an existing condition if I do. Not happy!
Im really pleased with my Petplan insurance policy, i took out my policy as a continuation from my months free that was started for me by my breeder.
I love the fact that Petplan are vetinary recommended & that they settle claims direct with your vets. The one off excess payment is an excellent feature, as well as the extra months free they gave me
Im very happy with my policy, hopefully i never have to use it, but its good to have peace of mind.

Petplan were not the cheapest but when my dog recently had a hernia they paid out in full. My vet recommended Petplan and im really glad they did.

We’ve had our house rabbit insured with Petplan since we got him as a baby 4 years ago.
The premiun is very reasonable, they deal with claims very quickly and their leaflet of terms and conditions is very clear, easy to read and easy to understand.
Petplan claims can be dealt with by our vet so we don’t even have to worry about sorting paperwork ourselves.
The new magazine is a good read and they do some good competitions.
I would recommend Patplan to anyone with an animal.

Petplan may not have the cheapest premiums on the market although they are still reasonable. Excellent customer service and very helpful staff. Paid out quickly when we had to claim and dealt direct with the vets. Would reccomend them to other pet owners!
I have always found petplan to be good on the customer service front with prompt no-quibble payments, and ongoing continuing cover for conditions that develop. However for older dogs, they are expensive with high premiums and also an extra percentage of the final bill.
Petplan may not be the cheapest but they are still reasonable. I took petplan insurance out for my cat direct with the breeder and I have carried it on ever since. I have not had to claim yet but the customer service has been great
Petplan are very expensive, the reason why vets like you to insure with them is that they get paid direct and charge more once they know you are insured. I was given a quote by a vet for my cat and it went up by £65 when the vet knew I was insured with Petplan. I have had other much better insurance policy’s for my other pet’s, so would not recommend Petplan
Good company with excellent cover and service but far too expensive and becomes unmanageable when your pet gets older – if you then are forced to move elsewhere due to cost you then are not covered for any conditions they have incurred.
DO NOT USE!!! THEY ARE EXPENSIVE AND LET YOU DOWN WHEN YOU REALLY NEED THEM!! The high cost (£60 per month) would be worth it if they provided the service. I tried to claim for a scan for my dog to see if she has bone cancer due to lameness and they refused saying it is a pre existing on going condition.Over two years previously she hurt herself in the garden and limped for a few days a condition that cleared up with anti inflamatories and has never returned. This as such can not be a pre exisitng ongoing bone condition. Even my vet has said that this does not make sense and has tried to help me resolve this but we are both hitting a wall with pet plan and they are not listening. Very little concern for a very upset pet owner trying to do the best for their pet. I feel let down that i thought i had done the best for my pet by taking out petplan insurance but I could not have been more wrong. Ontop of my £40+ per month premium which is due to further increase to nearer £60 (due to age and breed) I will have to fund the scans into the £1000’s myself or put my pet to sleep.
DO NOT USE!! We have been with Petplan for 5 years. the 1st time we needed to claim we were told we were not covered and have been left with a large vets bill. Petplan has let us down. choose a cheaper company because you don’t get anything from Petplan for paying the top prices.
Not got a plan with this company but looking at the reviews, they seems glowing… that is until you notice how many of them were made on the same date June 10th…. seems highly suspicious to me, so I wont be using them as you can bet that many of these have been made up by their sales/marketing team.
Hi Sarah, I have checked all reviews posted on 10th June last year – none have the same IP address range. I believe this was when someone posted a link to my website on Money Savings Expert. I suddenly received a lot of reviews over 2-3 days. They are indeed genuine. Hope this helps
I intended to carry on the cover from the cat sanctuary where I adopted my cat. The first time I called they had no record of me, or the cat! A few days later after deciding to go with a different company my mother got a call asking me to renew the cover. She asked them to call at 4pm up to 5pm any day as we have childcare commitments for family; we waited on three separate occasions we waited for them to call. Finally I managed to get a call from them. The gentleman was difficult to understand so I asked to be able to review his claims and then book the plan at the right level of cover. I was within the time frame to continue the cover and understood he would call back as he said if called the centre I wouldn't get the same deal. His call never came, when my mother called to find out what was happening she ended up being sold a new cover, which of course makes me furious. I feel cheated and on principle have cancelled her direct debit and am buying cover elsewhere. They say they are investigating. It has been two weeks.
I have been with Petplan for 19 years and yes, over the years the policies have become much more expensive. But….the service I have had has been excellent and I cannot thank Petplan enough. One of my dogs was diagnosed with a heart condition at the age of nearly 3 and until she died at the age of 7 1/2 Petplan paid out over £26,000. Without this type of cover I would have had to sell everything I own to fund the bills. They have also paid out over £10k for another of my dogs who has had problems with ligaments and a shoulder injury. As far as I am concerned, Petplan are the best out there. They have never queried a claim and pay my vets directly. Thank you Petplan – you have been a life-saver!
I have used Pet Plan for years for more than one dog, and I have nothing but praise for them. They pay claims promptly in about one week, and I have never had any trouble with them. They are pricey but you get what you pay for. I have had plenty of claims in the past, and my only complaint is that they have limited the amount of swimming therapy sessions, so I have had to stop them as I cannot afford to pay for them.
I took out insurance for my kitten with pet plan and 3 months later when he became ill and ended up with a £2000 bill following specialist surgery at a referal centre i was very glad I did!!!! No heartbreaking decision to make and no trying to find that amounto of money. Hes now a healthy 4 year old and still insured with petplan.
Can only share my experiences-my first little dog had heart problems from a very young age & needed costly operations;drugs;scans etc.Petplan always paid out quickly & without question;right up until the day he died. For that reason I went back to them-price comparisons show they are definitely not the cheapest;they’re actually quite expensive but I can only say that my experiences have,so far,been very good. I’ve already had to claim for my dog [he's 2]after he eat something that caused a stomach problem.Again-no problem in settling the bill for steroids and an X-ray.I just feel that I have peace of mind in case of a big problem;an awkward insurer is the last thing you need if your pets ill and you’re worried.
